The 16" Dual Fan Chill Mat features two fans that generate cool air to keep the laptop running efficiently and help prevent overheating. The laptop cooler pad can be also used in the office to protect furniture from heat damage, or on the go to protect your lap from heat. Rubber grips on the surface of the chill mat keep your laptop in place to provide a sturdy workspace. The device plugs directly into the USB-A port and no additional power is required.
COMFORTABLE DESIGN - Our chill mat laptop cooling stand is ergonomically designed so that you can focus on achieving optimal workflow levels. The even dispersion of cool air will ensure your laptop stays running at the perfect temperature. The matt measures 13.25 in L,9.25 in W,1 in H, and only weighs 1.99 lbs!
HEAT PROTECTION – Protect your lap and work surface from harmful heat produced by your laptop. Excess heat can burn the skin and even warp the surface you’re working on. Our cooling pad will keep your work surface safe and your computer at optimal temperatures.
DUAL-FAN HEAT DISPERSION – When you have important work to do, the last thing you want is your computer overheating. The Dual fans of our laptop fan cooling pad help disperse laptop heat for improved functionality. Whether you're gaming or working on a project, enjoy uninterrupted workflow thanks to the dual fans.
POWERED BY USB-A CONNECTION – Instead of having to connect the laptop cooling mat to a wall outlet, enjoy the convenience of plugging it directly into your computer. We’ve designed our product to be extremely power efficient so that it doesn’t put any additional stress on your computer.
SOFT-NEOPRENE MATERIAL – Our dual fan laptop pad boasts a soft neoprene material that will be gentle on any surface it touches. Your laptop will be cooled as it rests on a comfortable throne. The rubber grips hold the laptop in place for a stable work surface.
The cooler works fairly well. My cpu and gpu would run around 170 degrees, and this would get it down to 150 degrees while being a lot quieter. However, the unit feels very flimsy and cheap. I am rather afraid of breaking it during travel which is why I bought it. It arrived with a chip in the corner already. This cooler is exactly as described. It is quiet and a good size for using on my lap with my 16 MacBook Pro. It doesn't necessarily cool the Mac substantially, but that is due to the design of the MacBook, not the Targus cooler. What it does do well is keep my legs cool while using it on the couch. My only gripe is that it does not have USB-C ports for powering it, but then I was not able to find a single cooler of any brand that does have USB-C.All in all a great product in a nice form factor that does what I need it to do.I checked with several merchandisers including Targus prior to buying this. I wanted this design because I WANTED TO TURN IT AROUND, as I type approx 140wpm and with just a laptop balanced on 1 knee but I could never get it as flat as I wanted it to be. I can now type at my normal speed with the large end in my lap and the narrow base on my knee and still have a slight pitch going upward.THE NEW DESIGN OF THE AWE55US HAS THE USB CORD COMING THROUGH THE TALL SIDE (normally the back). THE USB PLUG WILL NOT FIT THROUGH THE CORD GROMMET. NOT HAPPY. So I unscrewed the 4 screw with a jewelers screwdriver making 4 small holes in the foam. That gave me enough room to cut out the USB grommet and move the USB fan cord through the slot. Then I strung it through the middle of the 'binder' (that's what it looks like to me from when I went to school). So all my cords are up out of the way except for the power cord. It's too thick to run through the small grill opening. Took me about 30" to get it all done and it's still usable if someone wants to flip it the other way.I do wish these fans were a little higher speed, as my brand new laptop has all the undercarriage vents only on the left side, from front to back. My older unit, which fans died after 2yrs were more powerful. You do need to be careful where you place the 4 rubber grips legs in the grill/grid. The fan brackets will stop them from going down all the way. You need to make sure all the grips legs are set in all the way. They help the laptops stay in place. It is so nice not to have a hot leg any longer. If someone wants to state that the fans are noisy then they are being very picky. I've had other brands before that lasted less then a month. If people don't want their fans running all the time they can either unplug the USB port or turn them off through the BIOS. I've had the 'U' shaped console with 2 fans, the flat board with dbl fans also. This is my favorite design of them all. The bottom is solid so there is no hot/cold air hitting your legs either. The fan wind comes out through the sides (or top and bottom of your school binder). Use your imagination on how you wish to run the cords through the middle/inside of your Chill Mat. It's almost like you were able to rehook-up all the USB parts so that you no longer have cords that are 3x longer than you need and everything is nice and clean again with no extra cords hanging out.I wish the grid was 1" longer and the fans were movable since 80% of the heat from my 2-2yo laptops is in the back. Since I have it turned around though at least my wrists do not get as hot.If your rubber grid grips happen to come out, Targus can get you new ones. You may have to do several written complaints before they escalate it to a Supervisor, who can do the extra work and order replacement rubber grips for you. Main problem is they believe you are looking for leg grommets NOT ones that fit in the grid/grill and they are not listed anywhere in their computers. Since this is my 2nd AWE55US I knew the grips come out of their holes easily, even though they are a bear to get set in correctly. I lost 2 the 1st week and another one 2wks later. Therefore I couldn't type anything b/c my laptop was sliding all over the place. It took about 5 letters before my letter got escalated to a Supervisor that could help me. The Service Reps kept telling me they were going to RMA my Chill Mat. I told them it was not worth the cost of the S/H. They said the parts department did not have any extra grips. I stated then the Chill Mats you are getting back are being thrown away and you're just shipping out new Chill Mats for replacements if you don't carry the rubber grips in the parts/repair department. Just have someone go take some off a returned unit and send them to me, it's not a hard concept. My letter got much more into facts and figures about their repair practices. The waste on how they run their repair department had to be astronomical.Truthfully I believe people only CALL asking for replacement rubber grips and get told "no don't carry those as extra parts". I don't take 'no' very easily and just tell them to forget about it and that will just go buy Velcro with tape on the back to hold the computer on their Chill Mat, which will block the airflow. At that point my letters got escalated to a wonderful lady who made the calls and got me the my replacement rubber grips.Another nice thing is the MS 500 compact mouse fits nicely inside the large end.On a different note I did get a fungus infection from the 'foam' on my stomach (I'm auto-immune to fungus'). After seeing the Dr. b/c my other Rx wasn't working to clear it up and getting a different Rx, it cleared up fine. So every now and then I take rubbing alcohol to the front 'foam' and haven't had another outbreak.I pray they don't do away with this model as I won't be able to use it turned around since it's 2 pieces of plastic made to hold the weight of the back of the computer. When your wrists rests on the front panel where the yucky glidepad is inset when you type the newer style, beside leaving marks on my body, would not be able to hold the weight.I think it's funny how the newer models prices are falling drastically. I don't believe they are working as well as Targus hoped.I don't play intense games, but my HP Omen laptop overheats immediately when launching Deep Rock Galactic and causes a crash. Using this I have been able to play probably about 10 hours so far with one overheat, and that was after a long session. I considered looking for a different cooling pad but if it's a rare problem then I'm not going to bother. Very comfy to keep on my lap.I can turn this off or on, as needed. Even off, it provides a great "table" for my lap. While gaming it doesn't cool the computer a lot but it's a whole lot better than it was!I love this!! I didn't want something super fancy or high tech cause I just Plat SIMS4 on my laptop. My laptop was overheating a lot and this helps A TON!!! It's so quiet, durable, cools really well and easy to store. I love thisThis would be 5 stars but there is no off switch even with the PC turned off it just keeps running off of the battery. Other than that it is light but sturdy and does the job just don't forget to unplug itNow 8 days in and with my 17.3 inch Dell Precision 7720 Workstation I tell a significant difference. Almost no heat remains. I had not owned a laptop in more than a decade and recently purchased an old workstation for current needs and became quickly concerned with the heat. Spent very little time shopping before I found a review on this lap desk that sold it for me. So far very happy and I intend to update if it later fails. My battery is already week due to age and is the next thing to be replaced but I don't notice much drain resulting from the fans. I am very pleased as this 36 bucks may just extend the life of my already aged pc.I did not use this product, as it wasn’t what I was looking for, I really just wanted a softer mat.....also very angry that you would want me to pay to return this item to America when we have a huge place in Dunfermline!!! Especially since we found out your policy is to destroy perfectly good ItemsThis unit has a well-designed and well-manufactured case. It uses a trio of generic 80mm x 10mm two-wire fans and a four-way switch to provide off / low / medium / high speed control. The fan speed controller uses the classic "switch through current-limiting resistors" design, which is wasteful but reliable, simple, and inexpensive. Unfortunately, it appears that Targus re-used this fan controller from another of their products that uses only two fans (this is fairly obvious since two fans are connected to the "fan 1" connector, and one fan is connected to the "fan 2" connector), and they either (1) didn't bother to change the resistor values; or (2) had fans substituted during manufacturing phase that weren't tested beforehand. The lowest speed setting doesn't allow the fans to draw enough current to build momentum, so they audibly stop and start in semi-random and frustratingly loud buzzing noises. This is especially pronounced when the fans encounter resistance - i.e. when a laptop is on top of them - rendering the lowest fan speed useless.I took mine apart and added a fairly large capacitor to provide inrush current for fan-start conditions, and tuned the lowest setting's resistor value to the highest value (i.e. lowest speed) my unit's fans would happily run at. I also deleted the LED while I was at it, because I don't need a waterclear white LED blinding the corner of my eye when I'm using my computer.I generally respect Targus' engineering and build quality, but this unit is very disappointing. At least they designed it in such a way as to be field-repairable - thank you, Targus, for that - so I was able to take it apart, figure out what was causing the issue, and resolve it to my own satisfaction. If you're unwilling to do that for a $90 plastic tray with $5 worth of parts and a bunch of holes in it - which you should be - don't buy this. Not really impressed. It says it fits a 17" laptop and mine is 15 and just barely fit on it. The fans are so weak it does nothing for cooling. I wouldn even have bought this if I could have found another cooler you could put on your lap. Nevertheless I expected some cooling from targus. Most likeley will be getting returned if I don just put better fans in it. Also the whole thing is plastic and VERY flimsy. Almost broke coming out of the box. Would never recommend this product. When I plugged it in I had to put my ear down to it because it was so quiet. I just plugged it in a few minutes ago, I will have to use it for a while and let you know if it still works as well. I have an older one I just removed and the construction of this one seems much better with the cord coming from the inside rather than from the outside back of the unit. Also, the old one didn't have the plug holders either so that is a nice added feature especially if you need to pack it up for travel.I am not sure who to talk to however, I appreciate these products coming directly to my door I just wish the person who delivers would place the packages closer to the house wall. Yesterday and today it rained and my package on both days got wet. If there was something inside that didn't like water that could turn out to be a disaster.Overall this gets the job done but like many others have mentioned in their feedback for this product, there is concern on it's durability and longevity. Plastics are more flimsy than I expected. I am worried even the small screws into the plastics won't hold up. On the plus side it is rather quiet. Much more quiet than if my laptop fan had to turn on. I know it gets the job done because my laptop fan rare comes on when I use this.I would have gladly paid more for better build. Only time will tell but I am not holding my breath. I only got this because there is not many other options. Will come back and update in a few months when I am sure this thing will crack open after an accidental drop or two.
